Canon’s New EOS C300 In The Hands

After much hype and discussion the new EOS C300 from Canon was finally in our hands - and it felt damn nice. Canon's Scott Daniels (left) discussing with Skye the potential for the new C300 in the field on our Great Ape Diaries project, while Rob Layman (our Pro Photo Supply pro advisor) gets a feel for the camera Canon says will 'change the game.' Skye seems to think so as well.

We – Skye and Gerry – and our support team from Pro Photo Supply – Jon, Rob & Co. – spent several hours today at an event hosted by Canon’s Pro Product folks watching a quartet of short films and behind-the-scenes on each, shot by and featuring the new C300 (which we announced here a few weeks back.)

What we got to see was how Hollywood sees the C300 and their enthusiasm.  The C300 certainly enables filmmakers to see the world in a whole new way, but Great Ape Diaries is a project cut from a different cloth – documentary cloth. Projects like GAD  don’t get the budgets, even of the smallest Hollywood films, and can’t support the crews – size or cost.  What was missing from the presentation was how a small 2-5 person crew, like ours, would be able to utilize the new C300.  More on that in posting tomorrow – along with a video posting highlighting Skye’s “playing” with the new camera.
